Student Artwork at Seaside Sculpture Park

Student sculptural works on view at Seaside Sculpture Park in Jacksonville Beach.

About: UNF Seaside Sculpture Park, in Jacksonville Beach, opened in the summer of 2016. The project, which features outstanding UNF undergraduate student work, was the start of what has become a great public art program that has now spread to other communities in Jacksonville, including a similar project in James Weldon Johnson Park across from MOCA.  UNF Seaside Sculpture Park’s success has sparked interest in other neighborhoods that realize that large sculptures can help define and “center” a neighborhood, creating a “Museum Without Walls” experience.

This project has been transformative for students. Each year students are able to create maquettes/small models for the park. The process is competitive and each student is required to present to a committee made up of UNF faculty, Community Members, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. Once selected, students are awarded scholarships to fabricate and install their pieces as large-scale outdoor works. This unique and ambitious project is supported by MountainStar Capital, the Lazzara Family Foundation and the City of Jacksonville Beach. UNF Seaside Sculpture Park is located at 480 1st St S, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
